Carrier-Belleuse déclina le thème des saisons en plusieurs séries de figures en pied et de bustes dont notre marbre est certainement issu. Une gerbe de marguerites court le long de la poitrine de la jeune femme, seul et frêle rempart à sa nudité ; d’autres, piquées dans sa chevelure, viennent couronner sa beauté.
Un buste en marbre intitulé Le Printemps a figuré dans la vente après décès de Carrier-Belleuse (Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 19-23 décembre 1887, lot 39, H. 60 cm).
